How much are enterprises spending on backup and recovery each year?

Enterprise Strategy Group (ESG) surveyed 479 IT executives and storage, systems and applications admins about their current data backup processes and expenses to find the answer. ESG’s research shows that 77% of enterprises surveyed indicated their data is growing at a rate of 5-25% annually, and 52% are backing up more than 50TB of data. Even though most organizations do not need to recover 100% of their data, they pay for full data recovery under traditional capacity-based licensing models.

More than 50% of the survey participants stated that a backup and recovery software license model that charged backup and recovery separately would be fair.
